Indianapolis weather: Heavy rain due overnight, Paul Poteet says

Rain will continue to diminish from the northwest to the southeast through the early to mid afternoon.

Another round of showers and storms will arrive late evening and overnight, followed by a front that will move through Friday morning. The mostly likely time for the next soakers are between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday.

Up to another inch may fall, added to a general 1.5 to 3 inch rainfall that has already flooded the state. A floodwatch for central Indiana will continue.

Additionally, there is a slight risk for some storms to become severe overnight and into early Friday.

Temperatures will be fairly steady Thursday evening and early Friday morning. They will peak in the low 60s before falling through the 50s the rest of Friday. The wind will also pick up Friday midday and afternoon - gusting to 40 mph.

I'm still expecting a cooler, drier weekend. Unfortunately, temperatures are back to below average for about a week. So much for Spring Break!

WKI-POTEETIA: This is the 40th anniversary of the Super Outbreak of 1974. It's the largest tornado outbreak in US history. Indiana alone saw 21 tornadoes, hitting 39 counties. Eight of those twisters were killers, leaving 47 dead and over 800 injured. Total across the country: 148 tornadoes in 13 states.
