Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow lived in this penthouse while she was still married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. In March this year, Paltrow listed the apartment for $14.25 million. The sprawling unit comes with a private terrace, a skylight, and a bedroom that comes fitted with a custom-pressed tin ceiling. Despite having been designed by renowned firm Roman & Williams, this apartment hasn't had much luck. Paltrow reduced the ask by $2 million a month later, but even by the summer the apartment hadn't sold. The unit has since been taken off the market.

The onetime owner of the Golden State Warriors, Chris Cohan, did what many other celebrities before him have done—purchase an apartment at the Plaza Hotel Residences. His choice was a 2,400-square-foot three-bedroom apartment that he shelled out $9.85 million. That's not too bad considering the $450 million he made when he sold the team in 2010 after a 14-year losing record.

The co-creator of Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tina Fey paid significantly higher than this apartment was asking to ensure it was hers. Fey shelled out $9.51 million, when it was asking $7.5 million. The four-bedroom apartment she purchased is nearly identical to another unit she owns in the co-op building along with her husband Jeff Richmond.

While looking for a new home, model Irina Shayk did not look too far away from her previous apartment. She moved just a couple of streets over in the West Village and spent $6.1 million on a two-bedroom apartment spanning just under 2,000 square feet. The building she's purchased in is quite the celebrity magnet and her apartment comes with a private terrace, a gourmet kitchen, and tons of fancy appliances.

Following the sale of a loft in Dumbo's clocktower building in 2014, Anne Hathway's next big real estate splurge is this $2.55 million apartment less than a block away from Central Park. The apartment spans 1,200 square feet and comes with skylights in both bedrooms, a planted terrace, and an 18-foot ceiling in the kitchen.

The Demi Moore-San Remo saga still hasn't come to an end, and this year the actress slashed the ask on her Upper West Side triplex by $16 million. The 17-room penthouse is now asking a still ridiculous $59 million, but at least it's down from the $75 million it was asking before that. Moore currently pays $20,000/month in maintenance fees for the place, and former celebrity residents in the building include Glenn Close, Diane Keaton, and Dustin Hoffman.

NBA star Deron Williams has basically been trying to unload this palatial Tribeca apartment ever since he made move from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. He first listed the apartment in August 2015 for $33.5 million, but failing to find success he lowered that ask to $28 million by this year. Some of the standout features here include 3,000 square feet of outdoor space, a 300-bottle wine cellar, and a sky lit great room with 17-foot ceilings. Most recently, having still failed to find a buyer, Williams offered up the 7,500 square foot penthouse as a $60,000/month rental.

The media baron had quite the quick turnaround on this West Village mansion. He purchased it in March 2015 for $25 million, and just five months later he had listed it on the market. The following summer, the townhouse had sold for $27.5 million—a very quick sale all things considered, and he managed to turn a profit out of it. The home comes fitted with herringbone floors, four passenger elevators, a white marble fireplace, and an outdoor areas on almost every floor.

Frasier star Kelsey Grammar was not having any luck selling his $9.75 million West Chelsea pad, so instead of slashing the ask, he decided to join forces with his neighbor who was also trying to unload a pad on the same floor for $9.85 million. Together the duo now wants $19.6 million for what would be a four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom apartment that spans 5,750 square feet. Located in Jean Nouvel's 100 Eleventh Avenue building, these apartments offer 360 degree views of the city among many other features.

She may not have been able to sell her Upper East Side penthouse this year, but Jimmy Choo co-founder, Tamara Mellon snagged herself a spacious condo in the West Village, and she paid slightly over the ask of $18 million for the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom apartment. Her penthouse at the Carhart Mansion uptown is currently asking $25 million, which is down from its original ask of $34 million.

Actor Ben Stiller and his wife Christine Taylor can count Irina Shayk as neighbor now that they've purchased a four-bedroom apartment in the same building she recently moved to as well. Stiller spent just over $15 million on the purchase, and now he'll have access to a 78-bottle wine refrigerator, Alabama white vein marble countertops, and a library all in his own apartment.

Probably best known for his reflective Could Gate sculpture in Chicago, sculptor Anish Kapoor is the first known celebrity resident at Herzog & de Mueron's 56 Leonard Street. He purchased a four-bedroom pad on the 47th floor of the building for $13.5 million this month. Kapoor is planning what appears to be a Cloud Gate-like sculpture at the base of the tower, so it's somewhat of a homecoming for the artist.

The journalist and her husband, John Molner spent $12 million this past March on purchasing a nearly 4,000-square-foot apartment on East 78th Street. Simon Cowell is also one of the residents of the building. The former co-host of the Today show and current global news anchor for Yahoo got a four-bedroom apartment that comes with features like "Parisian-like mahogany double hung weight-and-chain floor-to-ceiling windows," among other luxe features.

It's not a surprise that interior designer Nate Berkus's apartment was one of the prettiest celebrity homes to be scooped up this past year, and he got a pretty good price for it too. Originally listed for $10.5 million at the end of last year, and by June this year it had sold for $9.8 million. Located in an Emery Roth-designed building, the duplex comes with three wood-burning fireplaces, a windowed shoe closet, and wraparound terraces.

Just as funnyman Jonah Hill has transitioned into flashier roles in recent years, so too has his taste in apartments. In May, he purchased a $9.5 million apartment in Noho that comes with four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. That's a huge upgrade from when he lived on Howard Street in a one-bedroom. Hill ended up spending $9.16 million on the purchase, so just a little under the asking price.

Actress Uma Thurman got more than she asked when her Gramercy Park duplex, listed for $6.25 million, ended up fetching her $6.61 million instead. Thurman had lived on and off in the building for over a decade, and eventually combined two units to make the existing apartment. The apartments comes with Turkish steam shower Hammam, Namibian marble counters in the kitchen, and Herringbone dark wood floors among other features.

The only Brooklyn-loving celebrity couple on this list, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski purchased their lovely Park Slope home last year, but had to wait until this year for renovation work to wrap. Together they had shelled out $6 million on the six-bedroom home. The limestone-clad townhouse comes with some exquisite details like stained glass, decorative mantels, a wood-burning fireplace, and a skylight.

One of the most buzzed-about sales this year was the massive Soho loft that belonged to Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife, Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo. After having purchased the 2,800-square-foot apartment for $4.45 million in 2014, and having carried out a subsequent renovation, Levine and Prinsloo decided to move onfrom it in April this year. Just a few months later, shoe designer Nick Lucio scooped it up for $5.4 million.

Among a host of celebrities speaking out against president-elect Donald Trump during this past election, political commentator Keith Olbermann took it one step further by ridding himself of his Trump apartment altogether. He listed his two-bedroom at the Trump Palace Condo on the Upper East Side in April for just under $4 million, and by July it was off the market. "I got out with 90% of my money and 100% of my soul!" he said in a Twitter post at the time.
