In total the Woodland Swim Team has earned 30 medals through two events this month starting with 16 at the Sierra Nevada 14-and-under Junior Olympics which was held March 2-4 in Folsom.
Led by coaches David Karacozoff and Chase Sheldon, the team is comprised of 15 members ranging from age eight to age 13.
Five of the swimmers achieved a new time standard at the event. Olivia Ayson in the AAAA 25 breaststroke, Josephine Brant in the AAA 100 fly, Kim Moriones in the AA 50 backstroke and the A 100 freestyle, Kilian Bush in the A 100 freestyle and Caden Drefs in the AA 50 backstroke, A 100 backstroke, A 200 backstroke, A 100 freestyle and the A 400 individual medley.
At that event five swimmers earned a trip to the Southwest Age Group Regional Championships held over the past weekend at Roseville — Nico Rodriguez, Aly Dalisay, Drefs, Brant and Moriones.
Those five totaled 14 medals, Rodriguez grabbed three, Drefs four, Brant five, and Dalisay and Moriones one each.
In Roseville Drefs achieved a new time standard in the AA 200 backstroke, Brant in the AAA 50 fly and AA 100 individual medley and Dalisay in the A 50 freestyle.
All five who of those swimmers who competed at the regional event earned a spot at the Speedo Short Course Far Western Championships which begin March 30 and run through April 2 in Pleasanton.
