Artefact - A Journey Through 50 Years of MPA

Our new website is live!  It includes Artefact, a section dedicated to our digital archive.  Since May 2015 we have been working with a group of dedicated volunteer archivists on a pilot project to examine the wealth of our accumulated archive material amassed over our lifetime, which taken together presents a rich history of cultural life in Pennine Lancashire over 50 years. There is still much work to do but we are delighted to have launched this selection of our fascinating ephemera.

A great deal of time and energy has gone into selecting and digitising the contents of Artefact, it really has been a labour of love.  At present there's about 10% of our material included.  We will add to the collection as the digitisation process continues.  If you have images, items or stories to add, please get in touch.

The team have had lots of help on this project and we owe many people much thanks.  But special mention to Source Creative who have been extremely supportive, adapting, many times, the archive site design as we worked out what we wanted to share. Also, all the volunteers who have braved the tarantulas in the basement, searched through dusty boxes, and undertook the detective work necessary to make sense of items stored without dates or names, and then spent months digitising artefacts. Thank you Cath and your wonderful team. An extra large thank you to volunteer Fiona Hornby whose dedication to the project has been extraordinary.  Thank you also to those who have shared their memories with us.

This pilot project was possible thanks to generous support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  We have only just scratched the surface and, volunteers willing, we will continue to sort and catalogue this fascinating collection.  We are also planning ways in which we can share more of the stories from the archive - watch this space! http://midpenninearts.org.uk/artefact/

We hope you enjoy your journey through 50 Years of MPA
