Message from our Attorneys
The weather up North is unseasonably warm, but our snowbirds are still here with us! If you are a snowbird who needs a consultation before you leave, please phone our office as soon as possible to schedule your appointment. As we get closer to the warmer months we tend to be flooded with requests, and we want to be sure we have sufficient lead time to meet with you, prepare any documents that may be necessary, and arrange for you to sign them before you head out of town.

Wishing you a happy St. Patrick's Day and a wonderful month.

All the best,

assetlist
Why that asset list is vital
When we prepare an estate plan for you, however simple the plan may appear on the surface, we always ask you for a complete asset list. As one family discovered, overlooking asset titling is a recipe for family chaos.

improvementstandard
Know your rights. Medicare employees may not!
Medicare covers rehabilitation and other skilled services so long as they allow a person to maintain his/her level of functioning. It's important for you to know your rights, because some Medicare personnel continue to improperly deny claims based on the old "improvement standard."

LTCpremiums
Are your long-term care premiums tax-deductible?
Tax day is just around the corner. If you have a tax-qualifying long-term care policy, and high medical expenses as compared to adjusted gross income, you may be eligible for a tax break.

transfers
Different asset transfer methods have pros, cons
Making gifts can help preserve your assets - if you transfer assets in a manner suitable for your circumstances and goals. If not done properly, you may end up in legal trouble or facing unexpected tax consequences. Attorney Joseph Karp explains during his guest appearance on the radio show, OMG I'm Getting Older And So Is My Mom.

Teen hearthrob, now 66, has dementia
Fans knew something wasn't right when David Cassidy could not remember the lyrics to songs he'd been singing for decades. He's since announced he is living with dementia and plans to wrap up touring this month.

expiration
What do drug expiration dates really mean?
Expiration dates on your medicine bottles aren't just for show. You should take them seriously, say pharmacists. They also say it's a good idea to get those pill bottles out of the bathroom and store them elsewhere.
