“What is one thing that 2016 has taught you?”
This is the question I’ve seen plastered on Facebook walls this week. It’s another reminder that 2016 is nearly over, and I can’t help but feel a bit relieved. This time last year we needed $20,000 to renovate Banunule Primary School as our very own Fixer Upper. We needed a school van. We needed to fill an entire team of teachers for the primary school campus ten minutes from our existing preschool campus. We inherited an already functioning school of 3rd through 7th grade classes. We blended two separate teams with wildly different ideas and ways of operating. We reached out to work with families from a new community. We jumped from coordinating a team of 10 to coordinating a team of over 25!  So…what has 2016 taught me? I suppose it boils down to one lingering truth.

Nothing is impossible with God.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121
2017 is on its way, and new challenges wait for us in the new year. Terra Nova Academy keeps growing. While Banunule will continue to financially sustain their 4th through 7th Grade classes, Terra Nova will grow into a brand new class—our 6th class in five years. In January we will add a 3rd Grade classroom. Our student population will grow to 125. With the new year we’re introducing a new way for people to join us in this work.

“That’s My Class” is our new partnership program that gives you the chance to support a specific class at Terra Nova Academy. You’ll get updates, photos, and news from your class. You can support your class through the year or support their education until they graduate. When you go to www.thatsmyclass.info you can meet each class, choose a class to support, see exactly how much it costs to fully fund your class for the year, and sign up to give. We’re looking for 30 new partners to give $50 a month or $600 for the 2017 school year. 2017, here we grow!

For Those Who Pray…
  1. Remember the 205 students and 28 team members who will come to school this year and the 100+ student athletes who will participate in our soccer academy. Pray for God’s protection and direction over our community and in the lives of those we serve.
  2. January 20-22 we will host our second spiritual formation retreat for teachers. We will welcome 3 visitors from Samford University to help facilitate this retreat—April Robinson who serves as the Minister to Students, Lyndsay Cogdill who serves as one of the University Counselors, and a graduating senior studying Education, Lauren Hughes. Pray for God to stir our spirits and strengthen our commitments as we prepare for the new school year. Pray God’s peace and protection on the team from Samford as they travel and lead us in this special time away.
  3. Our new school year begins Monday, February 6, 2017. Pray for the work that will begin on that day at both campuses—that students might encounter a safe place to learn, that students and staff might draw near to God this year, that God’s light and love would be found in every corner of Terra Nova Academy.
  4. Pray for God to send the 30 partners we need to keep our little school with a big heart growing faithfully into 2017.
