CREEP: A Short Psychological Thriller Kindle Edition

3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 85 ratings

A dark story of a young woman's date with death!

CREEP is a short psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Serial Killers don't always get away with murder, no matter how hard they try.

Includes bonus short story - Legacy.

From
CREEP: “Cassandra pounded on the window and frantically tried to push the rear doors open, first with her shoulders and then with her heels, to no avail. She peered into the dark confines of the garage and saw nothing except her frightened reflection looking back at her in the window, bathed in the dim yellow interior light of the cab. She cupped her neatly manicured hand across her brow and looked out the window again, her button nose touching the smeared glass as she did so. She thought she heard a deep growling noise somewhere nearby outside the cab and then her window was filled with bared teeth and the blackest, evil eyes, she'd ever seen. The huge head of the Rottweiler retreated into the shadows before launching itself back at the vehicle, the razor sharp canines crunching against the window and sending a trail of cracks across the glass. Steaming froth and saliva dripped down the webbed glass as the dog began to bark and thud its massive head against the side of the cab. Cassandra scuttled across the back seat as she wet herself, waves of fear shrinking her into a ball, as the crazed dog leaped at the cab again . . .”

"William Cook tells a gruesome story with a sense of authenticity that makes you question with considerable unease if it really is fiction, after all." – Graham Masterton, author of The Manitou and Descendant

“This man is simply scary. There is both a clinical thoroughness and a heartfelt emotional thoroughness to his writing. He manages to shock as well as empathize, to scare as well as acclimatize, yet beneath it all is a well read intelligence that demands to be engaged. I loved Blood Related. Ordinarily I hate serial killer stories, but William Cook won me over. He is a unique and innovative talent.” – Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Flesh Eaters and Dog Days

Content advisory: contains scenes of psychological horror, graphic violence, & implied sexual violence

"William Cook - writer, poet, artist, editor. This talented man has no illusions about the horror that is human nature. His exploration of torture, murder and mayhem combines the scientific precision of a scientist dissecting a specimen with the creative flair of a sculptor working with words. Something tells me that he is just getting started and we'll be seeing a lot more of his dark crafts in the future."

William Cook took one of the deepest urban fears - abduction - and made it into a short story that will captivate the reader. I found myself saying "Oh, my, I could see that happening!" and "Oh, no! I have always been afraid of that!" all through the story. And maybe that's his point, we all fear certain things, we know how they could happen, we've heard they have happened and we have an ugly dread in our stomach that they will happen.

When Cassandra grabs a taxi for the airport, the whole world changes for the very careful young woman. She does nothing wrong, yet she ends up in a story "ripped from the headlines," you might say. Her cab driver turns out to be a monster who confines her and abuses her and she can't foresee a way out of her dilemma.

I won't ruin the story for you but trust Cook to turn the tale on its head and make the sadly familiar story to one you'd never expect. Cook's an accomplished writer and his plot twists and turns just like it should. Highly recommend this story!

This is an intensely suspenseful story that strikes dread into the heart of the reader right from the first moment of foreboding. As the tension and desperation of the story builds, so does the reader’s sense of hopelessness for the protagonist, whose innocence reinforces the positioning of readers against The Creep.

The story is well-written and developed. The characterisation is effective and the detailed descriptions add depth and power to the the chilling effect of the story.

While the story certainly has its macabre moments, the story is centered more on the psychology of fear and revulsion. The Creep is a very real and twisted monster in his own right, and the author subtly plays on the reader’s sensibilities to unsettle and repulse them.

Although not very likely to happen in real life this was a nice twist of the usual. The ending, however, left me unfulfilled. Getting to the end was okay.

This story is loaded with tension from page one. If you don’t feel the stress, if you aren’t anxious, if your blood pressure doesn’t rise–you aren’t human. I kept thinking this could happen to me so easily.

The trap snapped closed around Cassandra; there was no way out, and then Cujo’s smarter, meaner brother showed up, and everything got worse.

Then with a twist, Cook artfully raised the story to another, purer level, not easily achieved in this type of tale. I will be reading many more stories by William Cook!

Each new story I read from this author get's better and better. CREEP scared the hell out of me - very believable. The main character really took me along on her nightmarish journey as she went through her terrible trials at the hands of the creep - and what a creep he was too! Without giving anything away I was totally caught up in this story from the beginning right to the horrifying (but good) climax. This seems to be the first of a series - can't wait to read the follow-up. A solid 4 stars - the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it gave me a nightmare!!!

This story had me from the beginning and held me throughout and I was at the amazing ending before I knew it!

Cassandra Morrighan thought she was just on her way to the airport when her life is turned upside down and her worse fears are made real. After a nice holiday spent with her family and another year of college in her future all this 18 year old wanted was to get to her plane on time but the Creep behind the cab wheel had other ideas. Her little attitude has already captured his attention and he knows that she will be spending a prolonged amount of time with him.
What Cassandra manages to do is truly amazing and this story is not just a horror, and it is horror don't doubt that, but it is a story of survival with a victim that keeps her head in the nightmare that has become her captivity.

Great horror short!

Unfortunately, the "horror" was in the writing. This is fiction, so I'm more than willing to suspend belief as I read. The problem, however, wasn't even with it being too unbelievable, it was more than that. The story was completely lacking in logic. I'll share just one. The victim is the daughter of a policeman, but allows her taxi driver to stop at his home. And then he pulls into his garage and shuts the door. Daughter of a policeman. Nineteen years old. After that, every third or fourth sentence racks up the count, and they get more inane as they go. On the plus side, there are very few grammatical errors. If you need your tales to make any sense, skip it (f it isn't free). That's just good sense.

It seems that Cook likes bad characters to get their just desserts, not that I'm complaining.
This was yet another well written tale that reeked of pain and justice.

I really do wish Cassandra had spent more time toturing the creep. That would have been extremely pleasing, but then again I'm a little sick when it regards evil people experiencing what they have reaped on others.

I wasn't a big fan in regards to how it ended. I was expecting something more.

Recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CREEPY THRILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Where do i begin?
What a fantastic exciting action packed thriller from the start of the book. This is the story of cassandra a girl who is off back to university after having a holiday with her parents. She calls a taxi and gets into it and what she gets into is a big mistake and a pathway to a terrible time with the creep.
This story gripped me from the start and kept me wanting to turn the pages with excitement and the unknowing. I also had to read this in one sitting as it captures you in with the characters on every page wondering what is going to happen next.
The only bad thing to say is that it wasnt long enough because i could have read more and want more,so hopefully the sequel wont be too far off. 5 stars and well deserved.

I have read a few shorts from William Cook now and this one is my favourite. When a young girl jumps into cab, she has no idea the driver is a psychopath, intent on imprisoning and repeatedly raping her. It's a great short tale, perfect if you want a dark, quick read. 5 stars.

I got this as a freebie and for a short read it certainly packed a punch. While on her way to the airport Cassandra is abducted by a crazy taxi driver and taken to his basement where to her horror she discovers she is not his first victim.......
The story was very short and I would have liked to have seen it drawn out more but I did enjoy it and I hope to read more by this author in the future.

Not sure why this author is not more heralded. He is pretty awesome.
His ability to lay down the outline of the story, feed you some facts and then let your imagination run wild is brilliant!
The story starts off as your regular trip to the airport, which of course (its a horror story!) goes wrong.... poor Cassandra is subjected to a couple of seriously bad weeks.
Then the tables turn.... I would have liked more revenge but hey its not my story!

Its a good, quick, read with a great ending.

Keep your eye on this author!
