Anna Kendrick Thinks She'd Make a Perfect Robin For Affleck's Batman

The "Accountant" co-star is eager to suit up as the Girl Wonder in the next Batman movie, although Ben Affleck doesn't seem exactly thrilled by the idea.

If Anna Kendrick's perfect pitch to play Marvel's Squirrel Girl doesn't pan out, she has another superhero role to fall back on: Robin.

While promoting the action thriller "The Accountant" with co-star Ben Affleck, an over-eager Kendrick threw her cape in the ring to portray one-half of the Dynamic Duo in the upcoming Batman film (which may or may not be called "The Batman"). She even has her own cape and mask.

"Any room for a plucky sidekick?" Kendrick jokingly asked a stone-faced Affleck during a lighthearted interview with MTV. "Uh ... I'm not sure we're going to have a Robin," he replied, playing it straight. "So, tough luck!"

When Kendrick shifted gears and suggested she could instead play the Dark Knight, Affleck seemed at a loss for words before mumbling the immortal line, "I'm Batman."

That didn't set well with Kendrick, who detected sexism in the casting of the Caped Crusader. "It is 2016, and I don't need this patriarchal bullshit from either of you," she said to Affleck and interviewer Josh Horowitz. "Do I not have the 'stamina'? Do I not have the 'look,' Mr. Trump?"

Although Kendrick's push for the role is clearly part of a comedy bit, another actor is dead serious: "Big Hero 6" star Ryan Potter proposed last month in a series of tweets that he be cast as Tim Drake in Affleck's Batman film. The 20-year-old actor, who's Japanese-American, argued for more minority representation in the DC Comics films. He followed that by releasing a choreographed fight video to show he's well-suited for the part of Robin.

Affleck will direct, co-write and star in the upcoming Batman film, joined by Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. Although no release date has been announced for “The Batman,” Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes recently told investors the film is “a year and a half out.”

Affleck will next appear as the Dark Knight in director Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” alongside Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher. It arrives in theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
