""Until you practice surrender, the spiritual dimension is something you read about, talk about, get excited about, write books about, think about, believe in - or don't, as the case may be. It makes no difference. Not until you(practice) surrender does it become a living reality in your life."  ~Eckhart Tolle

 Definition:  Mindfulness-a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. (Psychology Today)

December 21st is the official beginning of Winter!
Well, that depends on where you live! However, it was not the "official" beginning of the holidays! Some people began the holidays as early as the end of October, beginning of November! Whenever, it began, I observed an increase in "anxiety", tension, stress, confusion and insensitivity with the general public. So I asked myself "Self, what do I put into practice to have this holiday season be one of joy for me and those around me?"
Answer: Practice the 9 steps of mindful listening! OK! Got it! So 9 weeks ago I began
practicing one step per week.

Step One - Brevity-practice saying what you mean and mean what you say without additional stories and explanations unless asked;
Step Two - Acknowledgement - practice thanking people for their information, insight, observations, feedback and sharve how they had contributed to your time;
Step Three - Mindful Listening - practice choosing to focus and listen to others based on the present topic; avoid expressing your opinion about the topic;
Step Four - Being Heard -   practice speaking in complete sentences; finishing your thoughts while speaking; avoid "you know"/"right" which are   throw away words that don't add clarity to the communication;
Step Five - Boldness - practice communicating out loud,  powerfully, authentically, respectfully and carefully in the present moment to others; avoid "playing archeology" (bringing up the past)
Step Six - Intuition - practice following your "gut/hunches" and saying, doing, taking the actions that are congruent in the moment;
Step Seven - 99:1/MSU- practice speaking "only" the facts vs your "opinions" about the facts;
Step Eight - Completion - practice being in the moment/now with what has been accomplished up to this "moment-in-time". Practice the mantra "I'm complete FOR NOW!"
Step Nine - Breaking the habit -practice taking an action you would not normally take;
example: When you do not share the same opinion as your colleague, associate, fellow employee, about a topic, say " While I don't share that point of view, I thank you for your perspective on this issue". Yes! That is an action you Would Not normally take...and...it breaks the "habit" of "drama" when your perspective differs from others!
"Practice Makes Permanent!"

BOTTOM LINE-Mindful Listening "requires" PRACTICE over and over and over again with all four quadrants-mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually! M indful Listening  is a lifetime practice=>life service!
