Don't be just good... Be the best!

...BE BETTER; BETTER YET - BE THE BEST!

I love this quote by Abraham Lincoln:

"Whatever you are, be a good one."
Abraham Lincoln

Mainly, I think because it speaks to the fact that you choose who and what you are and what you do. That is just fine.

But, is being a "good one" enough? Shouldn't we all be better than that or even (gulp) strive to be the BEST?

Yes...and, no! The fact is everyone can't be the best. The trick, I think, is to know yourself and what it is you want. Do you want to be a big fish in a small pond or a salmon swimming up the corporate ladder, for starters? The choice is yours.

Once you have a handle on that (a firm handle), then be the best you that you can be. This, I believe, is Mr. Lincoln's message, after all...

Many of the folks I work with struggle against the expectations of others - family, boss, social influences. There are as many influences as there are choices. In the end we have only ourselves to please.

If we can just figure out how to do that, everything and everyone else will fall into place. Take some time to really own what you are good at and what you love, then identify a way to do that. Plan away over the obstacles and garner reinforcements.

You're worth it.
