West Loop Ace Hotel officially opens

The long-awaited and highly anticipated Ace Hotel in the Fulton Market pocket community in the West Loop officially opens today. Another boutique entry in a neighborhood filled with them, the Ace delivers 159 rooms, a new restaurant concept from Team Giant, and a large rooftop lounge space to the West Loop area. The Portland-based hotel chain partnered with Chicago’s Sterling Bay and architects GREC for the project. Los Angeles’ Commune design studio lead the hotel’s interiors and finishes.

The Fulton Market corridor of the West Loop gained the attention of Chicago’s hospitality industry in 2014 with the opening of the lauded Soho House nearby on Green Street. As more high-tech and corporate jobs prepare to move to the neighborhood with the future McDonald’s headquarters on the way, hoteliers anticipate a surge in business travelers in the area. More upscale hotel projects are planned to meet the area’s rising demand in the Fulton Market. Developments under the boutique Nobu, Hoxton, and Equinox banners are all in various stages of planning and construction at the moment.

Rates for rooms in the trendy new hotel range dramatically, however, current prices start at $259 for a “small” 290-square-foot room and go up to $559 for a “loft” room. Suites, which measure roughly 864 square feet in size, are pricier at $1,499 per night. The hotel does offer substantial discounts to those who pay for their room in advance.
