Daily Photo: Oh, the Indignity

black cat with acupuncture needles
This may be going just a little too far.

“What I don’t put up with to be rescued.”

Dr. Michelle stopped by to give Kennedy a little acupuncture to help with his uneven appetite and a few other issues. He is a very happy cat and loves any attention including things like taking temperatures and getting fluids, but this may have been going too far. I mean, a needle in the nose? Well, right where the fur meets the nose pad is the spot for appetite, and it was effective, Kennedy, you have to admit that.

This from the cat who likes to give a few pokes himself. Below you can see the needle in greater detail. Darn those phone photos, they just aren’t sharp enough in dimmer light.

What photos did I post on this date in previous years?

Someone’s in Trouble, 2012
black cat hanging on screen
Jelly Bean is in trouble.

Looks like someone is hanging on the window screen and can’t figure out how to get down. If you look closely at his toes, he’s trying to get a grip on the edge of the screen!

Very often mourning doves will perch on the opened casement windows and coo coo coo, and a good kitty can only be good for so long. But they forget there is a screen in the way, and also that they can’t fly.

There have been two cats hanging on one screen at a time, and sometimes three cats, two on one screen and one on another. Buddy the squirrel has to be glad for good, sturdy window screens.

No, I really don’t care for it when they do this, but there’s not much I can do…as long as the screens hold, which they have for nearly 20 years. I think after this season I’ll have to have them replaced for little rips and tears.

Mewsette in Yellow, 2011

Mewsette in Yellow

Mewsette is always a wonderful subject for photographing by the basement door in the morning, easily becoming another semi-abstract element in the play of light and shadow. The boys move all the time, and look at me and move toward me when I photograph them, but Mewsette finds poses and holds them. I think she is very self-aware.

I desaturated this photo, though it had little color to begin with, and added a deep yellow filter, just 25%, enough to enrich the deepest areas and add interest to the mid-range areas.
