Serious assault police charges, Wavell Heights

Two officers have been seriously assaulted whilst attempting to arrest a man at Wavell Heights this afternoon.

At around 1.30pm, police were called to at Sylvan Avenue following reports of a male person acting suspiciously.

It will be alleged that when officers tried to arrest the man he became violent, grabbing one female police officer by the back of her head and pushing her face into a fence.  It will be further alleged that the man has then struck another female officer in the head causing her to fall to the ground before fleeing the scene on foot.

The man was arrested a short time later at a Nundah address.

One female officer received a laceration to her nose while the other female officer received swelling and bruising to her ear.  Both officers were treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance officers.

A 23-year-old Nundah man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police cause bodily harm, serious assault police and obstruct police.  He is expected to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
