Los homosexuales podrán inscribir sus ‘uniones de hecho’ en el documento de identidad, lo que fue tildado de ‘gran paso’ por dirigentes gay que aún reclaman la aprobación de sus matrimonios.

«Los colectivos GLBTI (gay, lesbianas, bisexuales, transexuales e intersexuales) tienen todo elderecho constitucional de registrar en su cédula(de ciudadanía) su unión de hecho«, dijo el ayer, 23 de agosto, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su informe semanal de labores.

Con esta decisión, que no implica el reconocimiento del matrimonio gay, las minorías sexuales podrán inscribir en su documento de identidad sus uniones de hecho o de convivencia tras su registro antenotario público.

«Es un gran paso», declaró a la AFP la transexual Diane Rodríguez, presidenta de la AsociaciónSilueta X. La decisión «nos hace sentir, ahora sí, ciudadanas y ciudadanos, podemos conformar nuestras uniones y legalizarlas».

«Nos hace sentir parte del sistema ecuatoriano«, añadió. La autoridad de Registro Civil no permitía hasta ahora a los homosexuales inscribir sus uniones en el documento de identidad porque no las consideraba un estado civil.

«No se está pidiendo que los GLBTI tengan derechos adicionales sino que tengan los mismos derechos que cualquier pareja heterosexual«, dijo a la AFP Carlos Álvarez, representante del Observatorio GLBTI de Ecuador.

Agregó que la inscripción de las uniones de hecho en el Registro Civil ayudará a proteger a los gays «en temas patrimoniales, en temas médicos porque pueden tomar decisiones sobre su pareja si está enferma».

«Había casos en los que cuando moría un miembro de la pareja, el otro quedaba indefenso» frente a sus derechos civiles, apuntó Álvarez.
