The silence of the klan

It was a rudimentary victory for Celtic today against inferior opposition.

I thought that the 2-0 scoreline rather flattered Sevco.

In the post-match interview, Brother Pedro conceded that Celtic controlled the match.

He said that “Scott” had dictated play in the first half.

When the final whistle was sounded the likeable Portuguese chap could be seen embracing Brendan and sharing a laugh.

Senhor Caixinha is clearly an intelligent man.

Consequently, he realises that the Celtic squad and indeed the Celtic manager are on another level from Sevco.

For the avoidance of doubt, the five-year-old club established by Charles of Normandy can only gaze up at their city neighbours and imagine what it is like to enjoy such sporting dominance.

Moreover, until Sevco can financially compete with Celtic then today was good as it gets.

Today they had a chance to deliver a cup upset, as they did this time last year.

Of course, the idea that the Engine Room Subsidiary can mount a title challenge over the gruelling length of a league campaign is fanciful.

Brother Pedro tried to change the match by bringing on a chap who had previously played for Accrington Stanley.

Celtic could bring on a full international player who scored 40 goals last season.

In the aftermath of the Dingwall debacle referee, Willie Collum only got one decision badly wrong.

Young master Halliday should have walked in the first half and Paddy Roberts was very lucky to escape serious injury.

Even the most dignified stenographer couldn’t quibble about the penalty award in the second half.

It was an incisive breakaway by Celtic after a rare Sevco attack.

Celtic will now contest the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.

It should be a great occasion between the two top clubs in Scotland.

Both Celtic and the Dons boast an unbroken history and a proud pedigree of untainted sporting success.

I’m sure that the decent folk of Planet Fitba will no doubt be happy that The People will not be anywhere near Hampden on May 27th.

One of the most pleasing aspects of the game today was that the klan was largely silent throughout the match.

They only tend to fixate on Fenian blood when they’re excited and happy.

When things aren’t going well The People tend to maintain a Quintessentially British silence.

I’m confident that the man from Antrim will impose a deathly hush on them for years to come.

Works for me…

  2. Given the treatment meted out to our players this season and our attitude of officials to such treatment, do you still think that Fleming is one of the good guys?

  3. I gather high-end headphone technologists Bose are currently funding research into the remarkable noise-cancellation properties of an early goal for the Hoops.

One of their quality control engineers, on a fact-finding trip to Hampden at the weekend, was astounded by the signal-to-noise ratio achieved.

“It’s almost incredible,” the seasoned audio professional exclaimed: “I cannot hear a ***kin thing.”

  4. Well done Celtic. However should Collum not have sent off Taverneir ( sp ) as he denied a goal scoring opportunity? The penalty was never in doubt no matter what the player claims and Willie should have sent him packing. Beerman also should have had a second yellow as he had just been given one seconds before a rash challenge.

    • Rules changed this season. If DOGSO and penalty given then only a yellow now. A red if outside box or seen as deliberate foul (or dangerous obviously). Meant to stop double penalty and also means keepers can again challenge in a 1 on 1.

In fairness I thought it a genuine attempt to tackle although definitely a penalty.

    • The ‘denying a goal scoring opportunity’ rule was changed this season so it is now only get a penalty and a yellow card if the offense is considered accidental. Red cards are only issued for deliberate infringements such as handling the ball and so stopping it entering the net etc. In this case, I think Collum was correct in his decision. Halliday (violent play) and Beerman (2nd yellow card) both should have been sent off though!

  5. Another poor refereeing performance, this time at Hampden.
Halliday should have got a straight red card for his assault on Roberts.
Beerman should have had a 2nd yellow card immediately after his first.
Tavernier was the last man when he felled Griffiths in the box and should have been sent off.
The linesman delayed his offside flag against Waghorn until after the “striker” hit the side netting.
If the treble is achieved it will be done despite all attempts to prevent it.
    Watch the cup final closely.

  6. Hear hear Phil,
    It could’ve been 4 or 5,but that’s irrelevant,We won and face the dons,TREBLE ON.?

I much prefer them to be ‘hushed’ leaving the air we breathe free from their vile ‘songs’ ?

Thanks Phil,as for refferees, well,it’s all been said before, safe to say that we need a new governing body, then, and only, can we set about sorting the refs out.Sadly, until then we have this nonsense in perpetuity?

  7. 1st 45 minutes was emphatic in showing the gulf in class as I’ve ever seen from a Celtic v StRangers game. However the 20 minute lapse in the 2nd half after going 2 up, where good goalkeeping and awful finishing prevented an opposition goal was a timely reminder that improvements are necessary in order to compete against teams in Europe next season.

    • Good point buddy. I think complacency got the better of us. We need quality centre backs and another striker.
Gordon and Boyata’s dithering was the only reason cause of anxiety.

    • Our final ball today was for the most part awful. We got away with it because, to be blunt, we were playing against a pile of shite. We WILL NOT get away with such sloppiness at CL level. We might not even get away with it next week.

    • I trust the BR recognises the team’s shortcomings and has firm plans to address them with suitable financial support from the Board.
Historically, IMO Celtic have always failed to invest properly in the team when they are dominant domestically and have regarded forays into Europe as a cash bonus with no serious intent of progress beyond the last 16.

  8. Routine demolition job, nobly the score makes it look respectable(almost). Sorry to disagree with you on my first comment, but, did Tavernier not prevent a goal scoring opportunity when he fouled Griffiths in the box.
Still will be sleeping with a smile on ma face and dreaming of trebles. Same again next week anyone?

  9. Nice to see Pedro beaming from ear to ear and having a bit of craic with Brendan while his Sevco follies were getting humped on the park.

Looks like he truly is a Good Man, as well as a Good Celtic Man, which must have the Klansfolk wound up to ‘flaming torches & pitchforks’ level by now, especially if they keep losing like this.

Yet another exciting week ahead for the jelly & ice cream salesmen.

    Yum yum!
