Update: The anti terror attack operation is over. The Home Ministry officials will hold a meeting with NSA Ajit Doval today at 6.00 pm IST to review the situation.

Update: Post the Gurdaspur firing, neighbouring states are put on high alert. The Somnath Temple in Gujarat is on high alert post the heavy terror attack.

Update: The members of Jammu west assembly movement were seen protesting against Pakistan over #Gurdaspur terror attack that took place today.

Update: Popular Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to share her concern about the terrorist attack that took place in Dinanagar, Gurdaspur. She tweeted: “Shocked to hear about the #GurdaspurAttack .My heart goes out to the families of the victims. A Prayer. Update: The Senior Superintendent of Police Pathankot Rakesh Kaushik has assured that the situation is under control. The Army is in action post the Gurdaspur terror attack that took place in the morning today. Further updates are awaited.

Update:  High alert has been issued in Vadodara, Gujarat. Security personals are in full swing checking passengers for security reasons. Metro cities Mumbai and Delhi have also been put on high alert.

Update: Aam Aadmi party leader Kumar Vishwas has condemned Gurdaspur attack that took place on Monday morning. He said that he is deeply hurt by the news of losing cops and civilians at Gurdaspur. He hopes that the forces will get rid of the attackers very soon.

Update: The injured security personnel has claimed  that a woman terrorist is also part of the suspect terrorists who attacked Dinapur town in Gurdaspur , Punjab. So far two terrorists have been gunned down.

Update: Punjab Police SP detective Baljeet Singh was killed in a gun battle today. He was killed in the Gurdaspur  anti-terror operation post the attack that took place on Monday morning.

Update: Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has commented on the Gurdaspur terror attack and said that militancy  is national problem, not a state problem.  The national policy  needed to tackle terrorism efficiently. (WATCH: All you need to know about the attack in Punjab)

Update: Post the attack in the Dinapur town of Gurdaspur , Punjab, security alert has been issued in neighbouring places.  An alert has been sounded in Parliament premises, the  security forces are working at spot. The security has been  tightened at the Parliament. Meanwhile the MPs are raising Gurdaspur terror attack in Parliament.

Update:  The bomb disposal of explosives is being looked into by the Army at the railway tracks. The sniffer dog squad has been put in action in Punjab railway stations. Update: Samba city in Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert after Gurdaspur terror attack. High alert issues along the national highway between Jammu and Kathua following the attack in the Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur. Update: Amidst the border security alert, it has also been reported that the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal is not well. Badal is suffering from high fever therefore all his  official engagements have been canceled. The doctors have ordered bed rest to Badal. Update: Manoj Bhatt, the Director General of Police Rajasthan  has said that the intelligence branches Issued alerts to all districts. And there is increased vigilance on inter-state border.

Update:  The IG  Ishwar Chander has assured that there is no hostage situation. They have engaged the terrorists in an encounter from the adjoined building from the Police station. Around four to five people were attacked early morning in Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur, Punjab.

Update: Prime Minister  Narendra Modi holds high level meeting in Parliament post the Gurdaspur Terror attack in Punjab.Union Ministers Manohar Parrikar, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu are present. Update: Home Minister Rajnath Singh has refused to comment on the attack. He said that he has communicated with the NSA and Home Secretary, the operation is still on and he has assured that we will be successful in the operation. The forces on the border are on alert.

Update: Post the heavy terror attack in Dinanagar town of Gurdaspur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the top Ministers today. The meeting is scheduled at 10:30 am IST, Union Home Secretary LC Goyal will be present.

Update: There has been no exchange of gunfire for the past 10 minutes in Punjab’s Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur. The Punjab SWAT Jawans who were injured during the attack are being taken to the nearest hospital. No hostage situation has been reported so far.

Update- Good news is that there are no hostages inside the Dinanagar Police station. Home Ministry has confirmed the report. It was believed several families of policemen were held hostage. Central paramilitary forces rushed to the spot.

Update- Reports coming in terrorists have held families of Policemen as hostage. No reports of any demand from the terrorists yet. More details awaited. Terrorists apart from firing are also throwing grenades. Punjab on high-alert.

Update- One more police home guard killed as the death toll now mounts to nine, including six civilians.

Update- According to reports eight people have died in the attack so far. It is believed six civilians and two police home guards have been killed. The encounter is still going on and some five to six men in Army uniform stormed the Police station.      

Update- The Death toll of has now reached to five, Two police home guards die during the operation.

Meanwhile Home Minister Rajnath Singh has tweeted that he spoke to DG BSF and has asked to step up the vigil on Indo-Pa border in the wake of the attack.

Update- Live bombs found on the Pathankot-Amritsar railway station. Army has taken over as Terrorists are holed up in the Police station.  

Update-  Attackers came in white Maruti car, it is the believed the vehicle was hijacked. Terrorists first attacked a bus before storming the police station. At least seven were injured in an attack on the bus.

 In a suspected Fidayeen attack, terrorists in army uniforms resorted to indiscriminate firing in Punjab’s Dinanagar town. The town is close to the border of Jammu and Kashmir state. It is about 235 km from Chandigarh. A gun battle was on between the terrorists, holed up inside a police station, and security forces. Five bombs were found on the Amritsar-Pathankot railway track.

The terrorists, believed to have come from Pakistan border side, fired at people near the Dinanagar bus stand and then attacked the Dinanagar police station. Eyewitnesses said the terrorists fired on a bus going towards Jammu and later moved towards the police station. Army and police reinforcements were rushed to the spot and an encounter with the terrorists was on at the police station.  Police sources said three to four terrorists in army uniforms and carrying automatic weapons were hiding inside the police station. They hijacked a car from a nearby highway and came to the Dinanagar bus stand around 5.30 a.m. (With Inputs from IANS)
