Why this petition matters

Started by Jackie Pomeroy

In March 2017, the Caledonian Sky cruise ship ran aground in the protected waters of Raja Ampat National Marine Park in Indonesia, and destroyed a large section of prime reef.  Raja Ampat is considered the global epicenter of tropical marine bio-diversity and is referred to as The Crown Jewel of the Bird's Head Seascape -- this is serious damage to a very vulnerable area. Rather than negotiate a financial settlement, we ask Noble Caledonia to provide physical and financial support to repair the reef.  Noble Caledonia -- long a champion of the environment -- is asked to provide full support for an international reef specialist and his/her team to undertake a reef restoration project in collaboration with the local communities and Marine Park managers, including tracking growth over time.  If done properly, this could become a showcase for responsible environmental stewardship -- and repair the reef for the benefit of local communities.
