CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season with a 5-4 decision over East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference dual Monday afternoon at the Caldwell University Tennis Courts. The Cougars are now 1-2 on the season, while the Warriors are 0-1.

Caldwell started the dual with a win at No. 1 doubles, where junior Emily Slater (Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Old Bridge) and freshman Rebecca Ryan (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Koinonia Academy) beat Allison Bean and Amina Dickson, 8-1. In singles play, Ryan and Slater both won their matches in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The Cougars clinched the match when senior Gwynne Alden (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) and junior Sara Riccardi (Jersey City, NJ/St. Dominic Acad.) were victorious in three sets at third and fourth singles.

The win is the first for first-year head coach David Erdos.

Caldwell is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual against Chestnut Hill College at home.
