The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday adjourned to September 24 the hearing of a case relating to making potency and sexual frigidity tests mandatory for both men and women before marriage.

Justice N. Kirubakaran deferred the hearing after counsel for the Centre and the State government sought time to submit their stand.

During the course of arguments, Government Advocate P. Kandasamy said the court might direct the governments to amend the marriage laws and make the pre-marital clinical examination mandatory, but “in practice no man would come forward to undergo such a test.” Reacting to it, the judge said: “Then, no man will be able to get married.”
