MTV has picked up a second season of Scream, its series based on the popular movie franchise. The network made the announcement at TCA, along with October 6 premiere date for Finding Carter.
After years of development, the Scream TV adaptation finally got off the ground last year. It got off to a solid start, with the premiere drawing 1.563 million viewers in Live+3, up from the 1.03 million Live+same day audience. Among 12-34 year olds, the average audience grew from 687,000 viewers to 997,000 in L+3.
According to MTV, the series from Dimention Television has generated 7.9 million streams across platforms and has averaged 60% increases in L+3 over L+SD ratings week to week.
“It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream,” said MTV’s EVP of Series Development and Head of Scripted Programming Mina Lefevre.
Added Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films, “We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in season two.”
