(Galesburg, Ill.) - The Carroll University men's basketball team opened Midwest Conference play with a 71-66 victory at Knox College.
 
Kyle Keranen led all scorers with 20 points while Nick Lange and Austin Fritz came off of CU's bench to add 16 and 12 points, respectively. Bryan Nagy added eight points, nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal.
 
The Pioneers led 33-30 at the break but the Prairie Fire opened the second half with a flurry to capture the lead. Knox would hold on to the second half lead until a pair of Nathan Schaefer free throws gave Carroll the lead for good with 10:39 to play.
 
Carroll, 2-1 overall, shot 46.9% from the field while the winless Prairie Fire (0-3) were held to just 38.8% shooting.
 
The Pioneers return to action Nov. 25 when they host Beloit College at 7:30 p.m.
