Update – PSPA declaration, Mackay

Police are continuing to negotiate with a man in Mackay following the declaration of an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act in Mackay last night.

Around 8.45pm police responded to concerns for the man’s welfare at a Burston Street residence.

Police received information that the man was alone and armed with a firearm inside the address and an emergent situation was declared at 10.45pm.

The PSPA has been declared between the areas of Burston Street bounded by Malcomson Street, Valley Street, High Street, Berry Street and straight line from Norris Road back to Malcomson, with motorists advised to avoid the area.

Residents in the vicinity are being asked to stay indoors while police respond to the situation.
