Williams returns kick off 96 yards in victory

9/20/2014 8:50:00 PM

(Lake Forest, Ill.) - Carroll University's Lamont Williams took the second half kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to spearhead a 28-7 Midwest Conference victory at Lake Forest College during Homecoming for the Foresters.

The first half was a defensive slugfest. Carroll scored the only touchdown in the first quarter on a 12 yard touchdown reception for Kevin Jennings from Kyle Burlingame. The Foresters answered with a one yard touchdown run at 12:05 of the second quarter to send the teams to a 7-7 score at halftime.

Williams, who entered the game ranked ninth in the country in scoring at 16.0 points per game, took it the distance at the start of the second half to break the hearts of many of the 1,650 Homecoming fans.

Williams wasn't done, however, as he scored rushing touchdowns in the third quarter (2 yards) and fourth quarter (2 yards) to give the Pioneers the comfortable victory down the stretch.

The victory improves CU to 3-0 on the season while Lake Forest falls to 1-2.

While Williams was carving up the Foresters on offense, Carroll's defense was dominant as usual. Michael Sahli and Josh Dummer led the Pioneers with 12 and 11 tackles respectively. Sahli recorded two of CU's four quarterback sacks while Tyler Aerts and Adam Bray each registered an interception.

Carroll returns to action next Saturday when they host Monmouth College at  1 p.m.
