We chatted to Rudy recently in advance of his upcoming gig in Belfast…

What has been the best moment of your career to date?

Well actually two, first when I passed the audition to join Ozzy’s band in 1981 at Randy Rhoad’s suggestion to Sharon and Ozzy. The other when Quiet Riot’s debut album Metal Health album reached the #1 spot in the charts.

If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?

Definitely Robert Plant. I’ve already played with Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale.

Of all the songs you have recorded, can you pick a favourite?

Quiet Riot’s version of Cum on Feel da Noize. It changed all band member’s life.

Tell us one unusual fact about yourself!

I’m also a 3D Animator.

What is your most prized possession?

My 1959 Fender Precision Bass.

Of all the bands you were a member of, which was your favourite?

If it wasn’t because Ozzy and Sharon gave me the opportunity to be in the band most likely we wouldn’t be having this conversation. That opened the door and set me on the path to a long and fruitful career.

Describe your relationship with Ozzy Osbourne.

He was a mentor and generous band leader. I’m grateful to him for all his kindness while I was a member of his band.

Name three of your favourite musicians.

Randy Rhoads, Ronnie James Dio and Tracii Guns

Rudy Sarzo plays with LA Guns at Voodoo, Belfast on Wednesday 16 September. Find tickets here
