Bakumatsu Rock Stage Play Cast Shown in Costume

posted on by Emma Hanashiro
The musical will run in Tokyo's Ginga Theater from December 24-29

The official website for Chō Kageki Bakumatsu Rock (Ultra Musical Bakumatsu Rock), the stage musical adaptation of Marvelous AQL's Bakumatsu Rock PlayStation Portable game, released photos of play's cast in costume last week.

The cast members include:

Shinji Rachi (Black Butler musical's Eric) as Ryōma Sakamoto

Motohiro Ōta (Yowamushi Pedal stage play's Shunsuke Imaizumi) as Shinsaku Takasugi

Yusuke Yada (Prince of Tennis musical) as Kogorō Katsura

Teruma (Black Butler musical's William T. Spears) as Toshizō Hijikata

Yoshihide Sasaki (Black Butler musical) as Sōji Okita

Photos of Yoshikazu Kotani (Sengoku Basara stage play's Motonari Mori) as Naosuke Ii and Kimeru (Prince of Tennis musical) as Yoshinobu Tokugawa will be released soon. Kōtarō Yoshitani is writing and directing the play and it will run in Tokyo's Ginga Theater from December 24-29.

The game and anime's story is set in the Bakumatsu era, at the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan in the middle of the 19th century. The Tokugawa shogunate use the brainwashing "Heaven's Songs" by the top idols in Shinsengumi to subjugate the country and its people. In this Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the "Heaven's Songs" is a capital offense. Ryōma Sakamoto and the other rockers rise up and change the world with rock 'n' roll for freedom and justice

Marvelous AQL released the original game for PSP on February 27, and has filed the trademark "Samurai Jam -Bakumatsu Rock-" in the United States. Sentai Filmworks licensed the Samurai Jam -Bakumatsu Rock- anime series. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
