Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened at home on Monday, Sept. 1 with a 2-0 Labor Day win over Willamette College (0-3-0) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
Â
The Red Men took a 1-0 first-half lead on a corner goal by
Ivan Chavez (Jr., Cicero, Ill./Morton East), assisted by
Austin Bitta. That margin held up until the final four minutes of the game when
Michael Dombrowski (Sr., Johnsburg, Ill.) made a 2-0 contest on a free kick, assisted by both
Taylor Pignataro and
Seamus Kaminski. Carthage goalkeeper
Nick Huftalin (Sr., Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) collected four saves.
Â
"We are operating on tired legs," said Carthage coach
Steve Domin, "and frankly, we didn't make good decisions or play a clean game. Willamette beat us last year on a similar-type match when we owned much of the possession, but it was nicer to be on this side of the win column this time. We have more to showcase and trust we will hit our stride, sooner rather than later"
Â
The Red Men entertain Carleton College (1-0-0) on Wednesday, Sept. 3 in a 7 p.m. game, also at Art Keller Field.
