WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State received votes in the latest American Football Coaches' Association Division II Poll released Monday morning.
The Mustangs snapped a two-game skid with a convincing 71-13 win over McMurry Saturday night at Memorial Stadium to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Midwestern remains one of nine teams from Super Region Four to receive mention in the poll joining No. 6 Ferris State (Mich.), No. 11 Colorado Mines, No. 12 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 13 Michigan Tech, No. 16 Ohio Dominican, No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 24 Ashland (Ohio), while Indianapolis (Ind.) is also receiving votes.
Pittsburg State's 35-17 upset of last week's top-ranked Northwest Missouri State squad highlighted four Top 10 upsets last week as Ferris State upended No. 7 Ohio Dominican (34-19), Notre Dame (Ohio) edged No. 8 Shepherd (W. Va.) (35-34) and West Georgia beat No. 9 Delta State (Miss.) (24-16).
Minnesota State-Mankato took over the top spot receiving 24 of 31 first-place votes followed by No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth (4 first-place votes), No. 3 North Alabama (2 first-place votes), No. 4 Henderson State (Ark.) and No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.).
No. 6 Ferris State (Mich.) gained the remaining first-place nod while No. 7 West Chester (Pa.), No. 8 Bloomsburg (Pa.), No. 9 Pittsburg State (Kan.) and No. 10 Northwest Missouri State rounded out the Top 10.
Midwestern State plays host to 22nd-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs have received at least one vote in 103 of the last 104 polls dating back to the 2006 season with the lone exception coming in the final poll of the 2010 season.
