Building fire, Andergrove

Mackay Police are investigating a fire which caused significant damage to several businesses within a shopping complex at Andergrove this morning.

Police responded to reports of a blaze at the Oak Street complex just after 1am.

Four businesses including a vet clinic, a newsagency and two take-away stores were severely damaged.

Several animals had to be rescued from the vet clinic and it is believed at least one animal has perished in the fire

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

A crime scene has been declared and police will guard the complex until investigators return to the scene later this morning.
