Bonner Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

Colin Bonner's Senior CLASS Award Bio
OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – Senior forward Colin Bonner (Reservoir H.S./Fulton, Md.) of UNCW has been named one of 30 college men's soccer candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

A four-year starter for the Seahawks, Bonner earned First-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association and All-State recognition after scoring four goals with four assists in 20 matches last year. He scored the game-winning goals in victories over UNCG and No. 25 Campbell while helping UNCW reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and earn a share of the CAA regular season title.

Bonner was a Second-Team All-CAA selection as a sophomore after compiling six goals with three assists and received a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2012.

The Marylander has scored 17 goals with 9 assists during his career, starting 55 of 58 contests. He scored his first goal of the 2015 season Monday night in the Seahawks' 2-1 victory at UNCG.

A Business Administration major with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average, Bonner has excelled in the classroom and earned a spot on the Dean's List in each of his six semesters at UNCW. He was an NSCAA Scholar All-America and Midwest Scholar All-Region selection last year and landed a spot on the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District III Team.

One of the Seahawks' captains this season, Bonner has volunteered with many community service projects. He has helped to feed the homeless and hungry at the Good Shepherd Center in Wilmington and worked with Stop Hunger Now by packaging food. In addition, he helped to build a house with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered for the Color Me Rad 5K Race.

Bonner has also served as a volunteer for TOPS Soccer, which gives kids with disabilities a chance to express what they love to do.

The list of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award will be trimmed to 10 finalists by a national media committee in October. The 10 finalists will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be paired with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.

Bonner and the Seahawks host North Florida on Friday at 7 p.m. as part of the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Wrightsville Beach Classic.
