Burgher Surpasses 1,000 Kills for Career

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton senior volleyball player Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) reached a career milestone with her 1,000th kill in the team's second match of the season.

Burgher, who came into the campaign with 983 kills over her first three seasons, registered 10 in the team's opening match against Clarkson and tallied 11 in the team's 3-2 win over Cortland.

She now stands at 1,004 kills in her career.

"I'm very excited that Hattie has reached this milestone in her career. She puts her all into every practice and game," said Houghton Head Coach Nancy Cole. "She has been a captain for the last two seasons and is a strong and positive leader for her team. She is passionate about the game of volleyball and it shows in how she plays and motivates her team to perform."

Burgher totalled 254 kills as a freshman, 340 as a sophomore and 389 last season.

The senior is also a stalwart defensively. During the 2014 campaign, she surpassed 1,000 career digs. She now has 1,268 digs in her career.
