MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Ground beef! Dozens of inner city students found out what is on the lunch menu.

It was not a typical fifth grade field trip for students from Sherwood Elementary. They visited the 54th Annual Beefmasters United Convention. It is the first time the event has been held in Memphis, thanks in part to a Beale Street merchant and cattle breeder.

"I was amazed that I was going to see a cow for the first time," said fifth grader Geordan White.

The kids learned about cattle and agriculture through AG in the Classroom, a program sponsored by the Tennessee Farm Bureau.

"The type of food that I've been eating is cow and it's nasty," said fifth grader Kierstyn Poyer. "But it's not nasty at the same time when you think about it because it's so good."

Memphis Cook Convention Center officials say it is the first year they've hosted live cattle. Beefmasters On Beale Street will be in town through Nov. 1.
