Members of Aswat Masriya (AM) news service requests Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) to reconsider the decision to close the service that covered Egyptian affairs for six years of operation as an accurate, unbiased and non-politicized news provider. The service has been recognised as a success story for TRF, quoted frequently by the international media and has won several journalism prizes.

The AM staff would like the opportunity to buy the company from the shareholders and to talk to potential investors. We are willing to find ways to run the service on a low budget or even voluntarily until investors or commercial revenues can be generated. We want to have the opportunity to at least try.

We understand that TRF have worked very helpfully with Aswat Masriya for six years and that it may be time for us to work on own. We want TRF to encourage the trustees to transfer the shares to our staff so that we can try to continue providing this important news service. The purpose was always to support and build independent media in Egypt. This is the time to encourage us, not to shut us down.

ابقوا "أصوات مصرية" على قيد الحياة

يطلب فريق خدمة "أصوات مصرية" الإخبارية مؤسسة تومسون رويترز إعادة النظر في قرار إغلاق الخدمة التي غطت الشؤون المصرية على مدى ست سنوات من التشغيل كمزود أخبار دقيق ومحايد وغير مسيس.

وعرفت الخدمة كقصة نجاح لمؤسسة تومسون رويترز، وتنقل عنها وسائل الاعلام الدولية بين الحين والآخر، وفازت بالعديد من الجوائز الصحفية.

يود فريق أصوات مصرية منحه الفرصة لشراء الشركة المصرية التي تدير الموقع حاليا من حملة الأسهم، وللتحدث إلى المستثمرين المحتملين. نود أن نجد طرقا لإدارة هذه الخدمة بميزانية مخفضة أو حتى تطوعا إلى أن يمكن الاتفاق مع مستثمرين أو توليد ايرادات تجارية. نريد أن تكون لنا –كصحفيين محترفين- فرصة المحاولة على الأقل.

نفهم أن مؤسسة تومسون رويترز عملت بشكل مفيد جدا مع أصوات مصرية على مدى ست سنوات، وقد يكون الوقت حان لنا للعمل اعتمادا على أنفسنا. نريد أن تشجع مؤسسة تومسون رويترز مجلس الأمناء على نقل الأسهم إلى طاقم العاملين ليمكننا أن نحاول مواصلة تقديم هذه الخدمة الإخبارية المهمة. كان الهدف دوما هو دعم وبناء إعلام مستقل في مصر. وهذا وقت تشجيعنا وليس وقت إغلاقنا.
