Cougar Volleyball Wins CACC North Battle with Post, 3-1

WATERBURY, Conn. – In a match-up of the top two teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference  North Division, the Caldwell University volleyball team defeated Post University in four sets Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The Cougars, who won by the score of 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 for their seventh victory in a row, are now 16-7 overall and 11-2 in the conference to sit atop the CACC North. The Eagles drop to 13-9, 8-4 CACC with the loss.

Post hit .326 in the first set and received six kills from Skylar German to win the first set, 25-21. Freshman outside hitter Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha) led Caldwell with six kills in the set. The Cougars started fast in the second set with an 8-1 lead, only to have the Eagles battle back to tie the score at 19-19. Two kills from sophomore outside hitter Rachael DiLeonardo (West Chester, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and another from Auyong helped Caldwell score six of the final eight points to win the set.

In the third set, senior right side Erica Harrell (Richardson, TX/Plano East) and freshman middle blocker Narae Wadsworth (Reno, NV/Wooster) delivered four kills apiece to lead the Cougars to a key 25-20 victory. Then in the fourth set, Wadsworth put away three kills in the last five points to give Caldwell its seventh straight win. Wadsworth and senior setter Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) each had four kills in the deciding set.

The freshman duo of Wadsworth and Auyong led the way with 12 kills apiece for the match. Wadsworth also hit .435 and had four total blocks, while Auyong added 14 digs and three blocks. DiLeonardo finished with 10 kills and 15 digs, and Nestoras had eight kills, 14 assists, 14 digs and three aces. Freshman setter Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, TX/Johnson) gave Caldwell four players with double-doubles, tallying 27 assists and 12 digs. Senior libero Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) sparked the defense with 21 digs. German led the Eagles with 18 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks.

The Cougars face defending CACC champion Georgian Court University on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
