Now in its fourth year, CES remains committed to offering an extraordinary experience for competitors, and looks forward to presenting another great season of enduro racing. New initiatives, based on rider feedback, include:

Golden Tour: A pro series triple crown within CES, The Golden Tour will feature the toughest courses, a massive pro purse, and elevated media coverage. The 2016 Golden Tour will be comprised of China Peak EnduroFest, Northstar Enduro, and Kamikaze Bike Games Enduro.

VP Components brand manager and CES co-founder Erik Saunders elaborates on his vision, “The CES Golden Tour is a big step up for us. We have wanted to do something significant for rider development and to increase the viability of the sport for the top riders, and this is it.” He adds, “We hope to develop the Golden Tour as a must-attend triumvirate for both established pros and up-and-comers.”

Team Support: The team racing format has been a great addition to the series and CES plans to further develop team competition in the 2016 season. Gemelos says, “The enduro racing format is very social by nature; hanging out with fellow competitors and friends while riding the transfers or waiting to start a timed stage. Racing with a team enhances that experience, adds to the fun factor, and throws in a new dimension of competition.”

To facilitate team management, CES is adding an online web app where a team manager/captain can easily manage their team, add riders, and track results. (See RiderID below for more information.)

CES RiderID: CES is proud to debut CES RiderID, a registration program that guarantees point allocation for teams and individual racers. This program enables CES to track series results more effectively, and provide result tracking for the racers. Gemelos explains, “One of the biggest challenges we’ve had as the series has grown is tracking rider results across the series. We were logging points by rider name, but people register with different names at different events, resulting in a great deal of manual verification to ensure each rider has received all of his or her points. CES RiderID will automate the results tracking for individuals and teams, and will allow riders to more easily track their results with our online web app.”

Series participants may sign up now for their CES RiderID at http://race.californiaenduro.com, then use this number when registering for each event.

New Semi-Pro Category: Due to popular demand, the series is adding a semi-pro level category for riders who are advancing beyond the expert class, but do not want to or are not able to race professionally.

EWS Rules, Race Books: In an effort to maintain consistency with the evolution of the enduro race format, CES is introducing race books modeled after those of the Enduro World Series (EWS). This will allow for a consistent way to find information about each of the races. CES is also adopting EWS rules for the 2016 season.

Awesome! I love the Cali Enduro races!

As a "Pro" trying to make a career of it, my only complaint is that I can only go to two of the six events (China Peak and Northstar) because ALL of the others directly conflict with the EWS dates.

Can we change dates next season so there are no conflicts with the EWS?

Thanks!

Lookin at you mammoth. Also if ashland could get links in there I would be soooo happy.

Love this series and the people running it do an awesome job. Is semi pro replacing expert class or is it an additive? I hope they include more course tape

Semi Pro is an additional Pro level category for folks that are not racing professionally -- there were some of the guys racing Pro that are fast, but not making a career out of racing bikes. They asked for a new cat that is Pro level - but separated from the professional racers competing a a career. We see it as a next step for Expert racers that are maybe getting too fast for the Expert cats - and want the next level of competition, but maybe don't want to race with the career Pros. We see it as a place for vet Pros that maybe don't want to compete with the young bucks.

The great thing about semi pro is that it's not age restricted... So some experts 30 & 40+ can have a top level category, as well as the young guns...

Should be a really great addition to the series...

@calienduro so stoked you guys are bringing a semi-pro cat in. USAC used to have it and I have always thought it was a necessary category to have for the "working" pro's.

As someone who works full time and races in the pro category, I'm not a fan of semi-pro. I'd rather do mediocre in pro than sandbag a lower category...

Melody and I are super stoked to be part of the team again this year, that means maybe, I will be writing more articles for Pinkbike Big Grin

Do they have a novice class or CAT 2-3 like they do for the regional DH races?
  • 6 1
no, you can only do it if you have KOMs on Strava
  • 2 0
 Yes they do

A little over 20 tanks of gas to make it to all the events in my truck. Hope gas prices stay down

Same here. Starting to make my 12 hour drive playlists now

Anyone know how much registration usually cost?
  • 1 0
60-100 just depends on venue and such.
  • 1 0
Waiting for race results is annoying, sounds like someone has done something.
  • 2 0
 Why no more Black Mountain?
  • 2 0
They replaced it with Fontana. It would have been cool to have a race in San Diego but I don't imagine the trails at black mountain fitting in well with places like Northstar and Mammoth
  • 2 0
SD is failing at mtb trails now and into the foreseeable future.
  • 1 0
@yeti951SD the unfortunate truth. And all the new trails we get are 4ft wide walking paths
  • 1 0
Hey what's up Skeen, it's Eli. Yeah I was just hoping the new trails they were building were gonna be good enough if that was the real reason. Have a good one man, I'll see you at Vail or on spaceballsWink

@ktmrider173 hey man, let's ride sometime!

@skeen95 for sure man! Im gonna message you my number.

April 1st Fontana. I like that.
  • 2 0
So what's the REAL April venue?
  • 1 0
Ha - we are thinking of some good April Fools jokes we could play on you folks at the Fontana Race Smile
  • 1 2
I wonder, will this be the year that I'm faster than Brian Lopes? Probably not. I don't know him, but I know he's faster than me.

 Hardtail class?
  • 3 0
 One day... It's my dream...
  • 2 2
Fontana is barely a DH course, so that'll make it perfect for enduro, or is there an even more pedally area near by?
  • 2 1
Ashland is not in CA. Poachers.
  • 1 0
Yeah, Ashland is a beautiful, awesome town with great riding though it's not like there is any shortage of proper venues to stage that one race in California.

Anybody else have trouble creating the CES Id ?
