Dr. Abdus Salam the forgotten pioneer of Pakistan

Two of the most renowned name of Pakistan Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Dr Abdus Salam passed away in November. The vacuum that occurred by their demise can never be filled. The man with unmatched intelligence Dr Abdus Salam was a theoretical Physicist and the first Pakistani who won Nobel Prize in Physics.

Abdus Salam was born in a district of Sahiwal in 1926. After completing his masters he got scholarship in Cambridge University where he completed his PhD in theoretical physics, he also won Adam and Smith’s prize during his studies in Cambridge.  After receiving enough recognition returned back home and joined Punjab university as a Chairman of Mathematics Department in 1951 and stayed their till 1954. He moved to England in 1954 and continued teaching there since he was not able to establish a research institute in Lahore.

Dr. Abdus Salam in 1964 fulfilled his mission of establishing a research institution in Italy. That is his greatest contribution in the field of theoretical physics. The man with the vision to serve humanity is known as a glorious star in the field of science his work was accolade by Nobel Prize organizers, who honored him with the great Nobel prize for Physics. He also received highest civilian awards from 22 countries for his remarkable contributions in research.

Although, Pakistani government also bestowed him with civil awards like Pride of Performance, Nishan-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Imtiaz but the country did not give him the recognition he deserved.
