"Over the last 15 years, I have always enjoyed using the
architecture within a space to tell a story. The walls, the archways, the windows, they all become alive with the art." Ellyzabeth Adler

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Auditorium, is a 107 year old building and  a cornerstone of Andersonville. Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble in 2014 moved their performance home to the church because the architecture allows them to change each performance into its' own by redefining the space.

The Heart Knows allows us for the first time to utilize the alcoves of the auditorium for performance.

The Heart Knows created by female artists focusing on love, longing and loss will take place traveling from alcove to alcove each with a different theme: First Love, Vulnerable Love, Lost Love, Forbidden Love and Unconditional Love.

The final piece by CDE's new Artistic Director, Sara Maslanka will encompass the entire space.

Here's the line up:

Ellyzabeth Adler tells us a tale of her first love, Boogie. A stuffed animal given to her at just two days old.

j. Lindsay Brown Dance plays with the meanings and connotations. The work explores trust and balance to awaken viewers to vulnerable love happening all around them.

Mignon McPherson Stewart's Artistic Impulse uses inspiration from Alice Walker's, "Temple of My Familiar, Gospel of a New Earth," to warm viewers' soul through a journey of unconditional love of the self, humanity, nature and spirit.

Valerie Alpert Dance Company grapples forbidden love as it pertains to religion and laws of state.

Lucy Riner of RE|Dance discusses lost love and how we attempt maintain equilibrium of what makes uscomplete.

Finally, Michelle Shafer with CDE's Sara Maslanka present a triptych about love, loss and longing. Music and dance work interdependently to peel away the layers of the heart to reveal its capacities of what binds us.

Arrive early to the space to listen to the sounds of Kristen Cone, who will be walking around playing the didgerdoo.
Concessions will be open a half hour before and after each performance. We can't for this unique artistic experience and hope to see you there!
