The JAC Group had hoped to open the $20 million redevelopment on December 18, however, managing director Dean Cocker said Fairbrother was likely to be working for a couple of months yet before it was open to the public.
Among the restaurants and hotel rooms, there is a walkway, rock climbing wall, quick jumps, zip line and a Disneyland-style dark ride following the tale of bushranger Matthew Brady.
The first realistic human animatronics from Jacksonville, Florida, has arrived on site.
‘‘The old millworker plays the role of a narrator warning about bushranger Matthew Brady and the ghosts of other bushrangers and historic figures from Van Diemens Land, who will be haunting the gunpowder mills,’’ Mr Cocker said.
‘‘He appears to have had a hard life with his right eye damaged by a gunpowder explosion.
‘‘The millworker will also provide a sung commentary throughout the ride as the escapades of Matthew Brady are recreated.’’
Brady was convicted in England for stealing and arrived in Van Diemens Land in 1923.
Known for his good manners in robbing his victims, ‘‘Gentleman Brady’’ was part of a group that escaped Sarah Island in 1824 — spending the next two years as bushrangers.
He was eventually captured near Launceston by bounty hunter John Batman and hanged at the old Hobart jail in 1826.
‘‘Scenes include Brady’s capture of the township of Sorell, his pirating of the sloop Glutton and his gang’s escape from the government brig Tamar,’’ Mr Cocker said.
