WILMINGTON, North Carolina - With less than two months before the UNCW softball team begins its 2015 regular season schedule, UNCWSports.com wants fans to get a chance to know the players before the season opener on Feb. 13 with a feature called "Around the Bases."

The latest edition will introduce Seahawk fans to junior pitcher and outfielder Darian Roberts. A native of Jacksonville, N.C., Roberts appeared in 24 games last year with four starts. She also made three appearances in the circle with a pair of starts against North Carolina A&T and UNCG.

UNCWSports.com: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
DR: I love the Wilmington area and it is really close to the beach also this was my number one choice when I was deciding schools for softball.
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe a moment when you felt the most Seahawk pride.
DR: Working with the Miracle League. It is really rewarding knowing that as a team we can help other and make them feel special and a part of something.
 
UNCWSports.com: Take us through your pre-game mental preparation routine.
DR: Before every game, I have to have my hair braided the same way. I put on my uniform in the same order. When I warm up, I try and do everything in the same order - warm up, bat then field.
 
UNCWSports.com: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
DR: Miracle League, 5K Color Run, Food Drive, Special Olympics
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
DR: Exercise Science. In the future, I want to be a Physical Therapist
 
UNCWSports.com: Describe your dream job:
DR: Any job that gives me an opportunity to learn new things, show progress and help others get better.
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
DR: Volleyball. I played all throughout high school and it was a big decision for me if I wanted to play college softball or college volleyball. I just love the game.
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
DR: I enjoy team huddles before each game getting mentally prepared and getting HYPED.
 
UNCWSports.com: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
DR: Taylor Matkins. She is a very random and outgoing person, so in ten years, there is no telling where she might end up.
 
UNCWSports.com: What animal would best describe you and why?
DR: Badger because what defines them is their physical and emotional strength, dominating personalities, and they are small to medium sized animals.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
DR: Think great and you'll be great!
 
UNCWSports.com: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
DR: Mexican
 
UNCWSports.com: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
DR: Nevada when I played in the Adidas Futures tournament. It was cool seeing the Western part of the U.S.
 
UNCWSports.com: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
DR: Anne Frank because she was a regular teenage girl but she overcame many situations. She just had an optimistic outlook on life.
 
UNCWSports.com: Most addicting television show?
DR: Pretty Little Liars
 
UNCWSports.com: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know …
DR: My dad adopted me when I was 3 years old.
 
UNCWSports.com: What is number one on your bucket list and why?
DR: I want to go skydiving because of the thrill and to say I have done it.

DR: When people leave dishes in the sink and there is a dishwasher right beside the sink.
