Collegeville, Pa. - (2/6/2016) – The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams officially began their 2016 indoor season with today's Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College. Sophomore
Giancarlo Martines (Cherry Hill, N.J.), freshman
Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) and the rest of the women's 4x800 meter relay team all appeared in mid-season form, recording program records in their respective evets.
Picking up where he left off at the conclusion of the cross country season, Martines sprinted to a third place finish in the mile run with a program record time of 4:27.83. His female counterpart, Lopez, also ran for a historical finish as she placed 20
th with a record time of 6:00.42 in the women's mile. She was followed by freshmen
Amy Lombard (Pennsauken, N.J.) and
Erica Dukleth (Murrieta, Calif.), who placed 22
nd (6:05.97) and 36
th (6:29.84), respectively. In the 4x800 relay, Lopez ran the third leg of a foursome that earned sixth place with their program-best time of 11:10.20. She was joined in the effort by Dukleth, Lombard, and fellow freshman
Eric Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
For the Griffin women, juniors
Darby White (Auburn, Pa.) and
Morghan Green (Fountain Hill, Pa.) both competed in the shot put. They finished back-to-back with White tossing the stone 6.67 meters (21
st) and Green launching it 6.54 meters (22
nd). Green also showcased her talents on the track, running a 9.94 (42
nd) in the 60 meter sprint.
Junior
Eric Barton (Colora, Md.) and senior
Dan Repsik (Haddonfield, N.J.) followed White and Green's example, finishing the 5,000 meter one after another with respective times of 17:12.82 (11
th) and 17:34.99 (12
th). Senior
Manon Purnell (Philadelphia, Pa.) competed in both the 400 meter and the 200 meter; he correspondingly placed 24
th (55.13) and 37
th (24.91) in the events. In the men's 800 meter, freshman
Raevon Floyd-Bennett (Union City, N.J.) represented the Scarlet and Gold with a 16
th place (2:07.71) run while sophomore
Ediegeo Vanterpool II (Clementon, N.J.) crossed less than eight minutes (2:15.30) later in 29
th.
The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's track and field teams compete next on Saturday, February 27, at the St. Joseph's College's Last Chance Meet.
