Stapleton Music Teacher Trying To Raise $1,200 For Tubano Drums

A Framingham teacher purchased 4 drums through the school budget and another 2 on her own, but is using a crowdsourcing site to buy 6 more.

Stapleton Elementary School music teacher Laura Beck is trying to raise about $1,200 to purchase tubano drums for her
students.

Her campaign she started on Classwallet.com is still short of its goal, and has just a week left in its campaign.

Beck said her goal “is to create a classroom community, where everyone works together towards our common goal of making music, and where we demonstrate the Stapleton core values - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready.”

Her ”World Music Drumming” project would help students “to create community through ensemble drumming from around the world. Students will be encourage to create music by working together towards a common goal.”

Ideally, I would love to have one tubano drum per student in a class, plus one for myself to lead - 26 in all.

But she started her campaign with a goal of 12 drums.

“I was able to purchase 4 tubano drums through my school budget and I, personally, bought another 2 on my own,” wrote Beck.

So the campaign would fund 6 more drums.

“Those 6 would consist of: 2 large tubanos $211.44 each, 3 medium tubanos, $176.57 each, and 1 small tubano $157.04, plus 8% shipping.”

Classwallet.com does not charge administrative fees, so 100 percent of anything donated goes directly to the classroom.

“ And each time I make a purchase with the money you donate, ClassWallet.com sends you an itemized receipt showing exactly what I purchased with the money, right down to the penny,” wrote Beck.

Beck is not the only Framingham school employee who has been using online crowd sourcing websites to help support her learning in the classroom. Dozens of teachers have turned to these sites this year and a couple dozen used them last year.
