The Aurora University men's soccer team improved their record to 2-0 with a 3-0 victory versus the Lawrence Vikings Sunday evening on Vago Field.
Â
Aurora opened up the scoring early in the sixth minute of the game with a goal from senior
Jason O'Brien.Â
Mauro Castro placed a perfect corner to the opposite side of the box where O'Brien finished it on a beauteous diving header to give AU a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game.
The Spartans would take this lead into halftime despite Lawrence racking up seven shots to Aurora's four. Two of the Vikings' shots were on goal but Spartan goalkeeper
Chris Donner was there to make the save both times.
Aurora started the second half just as they did the first only this time it was
Nick Cataldi with the goal, assists to O'Brien and Alberto Bustamente. The goal gave Aurora a commanding 2-0 lead in the 59th minute of the game.
From here on out, the Spartans played shut-down defense, allowing Lawrence only two shots for the entire second half.Â
Ben Edith also padded the Spartan lead with a goal in the 79th minute assisted by
Jacob Goehring. The Spartans would go on to win by a final score of 3-0.
Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on
