Wilson College Hires First Men’s Volleyball Coach

Jason Barshinger assumes head coaching position for men’s volleyball program

Chambersburg, Pa. – The Wilson College Athletic Department is pleased to announce Jason Barshinger as the first men's volleyball coach at Wilson College.  The inaugural men's volleyball program is set to kick off during the 2015-16 academic year.

"I am honored and privileged to have been chosen to coach the men's volleyball program at Wilson College," said Barshinger.  "I look forward to creating a program built on hard work with the desire to succeed at a high level."

Previously, Barshinger served in various coaching stints at both the high school and college levels.  In 2004 and 2005, he served as the head men's volleyball coach at Central Pennsylvania College, where he gained experience in athletic recruiting and the day to day duties of running a collegiate athletic program.  Additionally, Barshinger assumed the head coaching position for the women's volleyball program at Central Pennsylvania College in 2013 and 2014.  During his time at Central Pennsylvania College, he created and established the inaugural men and women's volleyball programs.  His women's volleyball program was ranked twentieth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) in 2013.  Furthermore Barshinger held coaching stints at Central York High School as a volunteer assistant men's volleyball coach during the 2002, 2003, and 2010 seasons.  He also currently is the head men's volleyball coach at New Oxford High School located in New Oxford, Pennsylvania.

"I am pleased to add Jason Barshinger to the Wilson coaching staff.  Starting a new program requires just the right person and we have found that in Jason," said athletics director Lori Frey.  "He brings a great deal of enthusiasm and experience to the sport of volleyball and will be a good role model for our future student-athletes.  I look forward to working with him to develop Wilson's first men's volleyball program."

Currently, Barshinger is the owner of 149 Media Group (York, Pa.), where he operates the marking and branding company with a strong focus on promotional products and graphic design.  Barshinger is a 2003 graduate of Central Pennsylvania College where he earned a degree in communications and played varsity basketball, golf, and cross country.  During his basketball career, he was an Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Association (EPCC) All-Star in the 2002-03 season.  He also was named Athlete of the Year in 2002 and was on the Dean's List.

Barshinger will immediately begin recruitment for the first men's volleyball program in the history of Wilson College.  Men's volleyball marks the tenth sport offered at Wilson College, meeting the College's National Collegiate Athletic Associations (NCAA) compliance requirement for sport sponsorship.
