RING's Membership Meeting date set!
Sun., March 13, 7pm at the Mormon Church
Please Mark Your Calendars and Come!

The RING planning committee has finalized a draft of the RING bylaws for the membership to review and vote on at its

Membership meeting on Sunday, March 13, 7pm
at the Mormon church (Payson and Riverside).

(Refreshments provided.)

Briefly, the bylaws make RING's structure and governance more transparentand inclusive. They schedule an annual membership meeting, adopt rules to electa board of 5 to 11 members to help run the garden, and define the board's responsibilities.
Secondly, as a NYS not-for-profit corporation, RING Inc.'s purposes and
activities must be in compliance with state and federal rules governing
non-profits. Articles I, II, V.8, VII, VIII, and IX address this requirement.
With bylaws in hand, RING can apply for a NYS Sales Tax Exemption
on garden purchases and for federal 501c3 tax-exempt status.

If you have any thoughts about needed changes before the meeting, please let us know.

Now would be a great time to renew your membership, so that you'd be sure to be eligible to vote.  At this time we project we will have 88 members at the time of voting, but with renewals we can have more!

Also at the member meeting, we will introduce the planning members, describe the kinds of tasks that they do and that we need more volunteers for, as well as to review our accomplishments over the last year.
Volunteers Needed!
This year, the RING garden is looking to become a 501c3 tax exempt organization.  We are already a New York State not for profit corporation.  To expedite the process we are looking for a volunteer who has gone through this IRS application process or willing to learn, to help us go through the process.

We are also looking for volunteers who would like to assist in grant applications.  We can get funding for plants, signage, tools, events, educational training sessions and more.

Looking ahead to the warmer months, we're looking for volunteers who have ideas for new events and to help us host those.  These could be cultural (e.g. music, art, drama, etc), educational, community-related... pretty much anything Except political, as our agreement with the Parks Department prohibits that.  Let us know your ideas and when you'd be available to host them.  As with everything at the garden, if you need guidance in how to host, we can advise.  Please let Maggie know. mclarke@hunter.cuny.edu
