Lopers Run Past Marauders in Shootout

Dietz scores 31 to lead all players

Box Score  BISMARCK, N.D. – While Brittney Dietz continued to prove unstoppable this season, the University of Mary women's basketball team couldn't contain a potent University of Nebraska Kearney squad in a 94-84 Marauders home loss to the Lopers.
 
Dietz poured in 31 points for U-Mary (2-4 overall), the second time this season she has cracked the 30 point barrier. Playing all 40 minutes, the junior forward finished 12-of-21 from the field and made all seven free throw attempts. She also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
Tied 14-14 nearing the midpoint of the opening half, the Lopers (2-3) went on a 22-6 run to build a 16 point lead. Using their speed and athleticism, Nebraska Kearney turned five U-Mary turnovers into 10 points for the Lopers during the run.
 
Leading 43-35 at the half, the Lopers started the second period on an 18-8 run to push their advantage to 61-43. Eventually UNK built a 21 point lead over U-Mary.
 
The Marauders began chipping away at the deficit midway through the second half. Down 70-49 and just over nine minutes left, the Marauders pulled within 89-84 with 35 seconds remaining on the clock. Dani Clarke hit three treys during the run and Dietz and Hannah Larson both chipped in 10 to close the gap.    
 
Nebraska Kearney held off U-Mary by making five of six free throws in the closing seconds while the Marauders went 0-for-3 from the field.
 
Clarke finished 5-of-8 behind the arc and scored a career-high 16 points for U-Mary. She also had three steals and two assists.
 
Larson posted a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She added four assists and blocked a game-high four shots.
 
Sloan Turner added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench and Haley Hibbs had six assists and two blocks.
 
McKenzie Brown led Nebraska Kearney with 22 points. Alexa Hogberg added 21, making 3-of-4 three-point attempts, had three assists and three steals. Amarah Williams scored 17 points, making 7-of-9 at the free throw line, hauled down nine rebounds, and had three assists and two steals. Laramey Lewis chipped in 15 points and four assists.
 
The Lopers biggest advantage in the game came at the free throw line, making 28 out of 34 attempts. The Marauders finished 16-of-20. 
 
The Marauders next open Northern Sun action when U-Mary hosts Minot State University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, in the McDowell Activity Center.
