Deputies identify home invasion victim who died after beating

A home-invasion victim in northwest Orange County who was beaten with a blunt object has died, deputies said today.

The victim was identified as 56-year-old Aurelio Piedra Navarro.

The attack happened at 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of Berg Drive in the Zellwood area.

Three males armed with firearms barged into a residence and demanded money, said Jeff Williamson, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

“The suspects robbed and beat a victim with an unknown blunt object,” Williamson said in a statement. “Suspects left in an unknown vehicle toward Orange Blossom Trail.”

The Orange County Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim dead, he added.

“Detectives are following all leads and will provide additional information as it becomes available,” he said.
