Four Blue Streaks Earn Spots On D3football.com All-America Team

In conjunction with the Stagg Bowl, D3football.com released its All-America teams on Friday evening. Four John Carroll University football players were honored, the most ever by the Blue Streaks by D3football.com.

Offensive lineman Anthony Latina and linebacker Kevin Cope garnered second team honors while wide receiver/kick returner Aramis Greenwood and quarterback Mark Myers garnered honorable mention accolades.

Latina became JCU's first All-American offensive lineman since Devin Martin in 2011.

Latina paved the way for one of the best offenses in the nation. The junior spent time between guard and tackle proving to be effective in both pass and rush blocking in his second year as a starter. The Independence, Ohio native helped senior Tommy Michals go on to set the single-season rushing total at John Carroll with 1,448 yards. Michals would also tie the 64-year-old JCU record with 20 rushing touchdowns.

Cope anchored the John Carroll defense and was named the Gene Slaughter Co-Most Outstanding Linebacker in the OAC. The two-time D3football.com All-Region honoree earned his first All-American honors. Cope would finish with 80 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception and five pass breakups. His eight tackles against Wheaton in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Football Championship helped pave the way for John Carroll to advance to its third-ever quarterfinal.

Cope earned JCU's first All-American honors at linebacker since Chris Cubero (2002).

Greenwood became the first Blue Streak to earn All-American honors from three organizations in the same year since Arth, Cubero and Matt Payne did so during the 2002 season.

The senior added this honor with his AFCA All-America and third team AP Little All-America honor.

Greenwood returned two game-opening kickoffs for touchdowns in back-to-back weeks. He took the opening kick back 84 yards against Marietta on October 18 and followed that with a 100-yard kick return against Capital a week later. As a wide receiver, Greenwood finished his career with 149 receptions for 2,307 yards and a school-record 27 scores. Both the reception and yardage marks rank second in program history.

Myers became just the third quarterback in program history to earn All-American honors joining Nick Caserio (1998) and Tom Arth (2001-02).

Myers re-wrote the JCU passing record book over his career. The left-hander had a monster year in 2014 completing 255 passes for 3,428 yards and 41 touchdowns, all of which are single-season school records. Myers' 67.3 completion percentage and 3,387 yards of total offense also set single-season marks at John Carroll.

For his career, Myers finished with a school-record 9,598 yards passing and a school-record 94 touchdowns.

The Pepper Pike, Ohio native had seven games with at least four touchdown passes this season, including five against Centre in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Football Championship to surpass Arth for the most all-time in school history.

John Carroll concluded its 2014 season with an 11-2 record, making an appearance in the program's third NCAA Football Championship quarterfinal and first since 2002.
