Kendall Pye named ASC Volleyball Distinguished Scholar-Athlete

Belton, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball player Kendall Pye has been voted the American Southwest Conference Volleyball Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for the 2014 season. Football player Trey Thedford, women's soccer player Chrais Brantley and men's soccer player Isaiah Minick were also named to the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams in their sports.

Pye is a junior outside hitter/setter and mathematics major from A&M Consolidated High School and takes Volleyball Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors for the second straight year. She carries a 4.00 GPA and earned ASC All-Conference and Academic All-Conference honors for the second straight season. Pye was an Academic All-District VII selection and helped lead the Cru to the program's first ASC Championship since 1998 and a second straight berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Minick is a senior International Business major from Chang Mai, Thailand, Thedford is a junior exercise science major from Ganado and Brantley is a sophomore exercise science major from College Station. All three of those players were named to the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams as UMHB's nominees for ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete with Minick earning a second appearance on the honor squad.

The award, in its eighth academic year, recognizes student-athletes who achieve a high level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list – limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport – the sports information directors from the 12 ASC member institutions select a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in each sport.
