These Micro Units Would Stick to Sides of Buildings Like Nests

New, 12 comments

Architect Michael Perry was just named one of the winners of Houzz's and the American Institute of Architects' Future of Architecture Residential Design Contest and Showcase for his Cliff Swallow Apartments concept, which would "address the need for new affordable housing in New York City by tapping into underutilized space in established high-density neighborhoods," namely the sides of buildings, where micro units inspired by birds' nests would be stuck. This doesn't seem like the type of thing that is particularly likely to actually happen—can you imagine what the Landmarks Preservation Commission would say?—but it is a cool, inventive design, and definitely fun (if slightly scary) to think about.
