Serious traffic crash, Wondecla (near Herberton)

The Forensic Crash Unit is at the scene of a serious traffic crash that occurred this morning on the Longlands Gap-Herberton Road at Wondecla.

Initial investigations indicate that around 11.27am, two vehicles collided head-on.

A male driver was entrapped for a period of time and was recently freed by emergency crews.

He will be transported via helicopter to the Cairns Hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries.

A female driver was transported to the Atherton Hospital by QAS for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police would like to advise that Longlands Gap-Herberton Road is currently closed at the crash site and is expected to remain closed for a period of time.

There is no further information available. Investigations are continuing.
