Video: Levi Sherwood stuns with world first double backflip

Kiwi daredevil Levi Sherwood has the freestyle motocross world in a spin after landing a breathtaking double backflip to defend his title at the Nitro World Games in Salt Lake City.

The 26-year-old from Palmerston North was the last to run as top qualifier, and showed off his all-round skills against the best of the FMX world.

He rounded out his stellar run with a knack-knack double backflip, where one leg comes off the bike during the rotation, believed to be the first ever landed in competition.

Sherwood couldn't hide his excitement afterwards, climbing to the top of the ramp to celebrate as the crowd went wild in Utah.

It's the first time Sherwood has shown off the move in public, after earlier Newshub exclusively revealed he pulled off the stunning trick in his own personal ramp on his Manawatu farm.

Sherwood will be the man to watch again when he competes at the Red Bell X-Fighters in Madrid on July 7.
